WEST, RICHIE HONORED

Bishop Kenny coach Bob West and player Tony Richie swept the Florida Dairy Baseball Awards. Richie was named Mr. Baseball and West won the Coach of the Year award. Richie, a senior catcher, hit .538 with 6 home runs, 4 triples, 14 doubles, 34 RBI and 56 runs scored. Richie was the 4A Player of the Year, which made him eligible for the Mr. Baseball award. West led his team to a 34-2 record and a runner-up finish in Class 4A. The two will be honored along with 19 others at the eighth annual Florida Dairy Farmers Sports Awards banquet on June 24 in Orlando.

BROTHER QUITS

Keith Gretzky, the 32-year-old younger brother of hockey great Wayne Gretzky, resigned Monday as head coach and general manager of Asheville (N.C.) of the United Hockey League after two seasons, citing personal reasons. "This was a very difficult decision for me to make," Gretzky said. Gretzky added that he doesn't have any immediate plans, other than spending time with his parents in Brantford, Ontario. …
