Two Dot-Com Companies Heading to Cypress Point Business Park

Article excerpt

Two high-tech dot-com companies -- Colo.com of California and Pricelinemortgage of Jacksonville -- will be setting up shop in Southside's Cypress Point Business Park, we're told.

The moves could generate about 140 new jobs over time -- an estimated 20 at Colo.com and another 120 at Pricelinemortgage.

Cypress Point sits along Philips Highway, south of Butler Boulevard.

More details:

Colo.com, based in Brisbane, Calif., near San Francisco, intends to open a telecommunications collocation site, also referred to as a "carrier hotel," in almost 26,000 square feet of space at Cypress Point by November.

Colo.com operates what are called "neutral central offices" that allow telecommunications carriers, Internet businesses and the like to access communications networks. Its Web site shows that it intends to open more than 40 centers by the end of 2000.

Five locations now are open, another 14 will open soon and another 21 leases have been signed, including the one in Jacksonville, the Web site shows.

Colo.com executives could not be reached, but we understand that Colo.com could invest $20 million in the project and equipment and employ 15 to 20 people.

Pricelinemortgage, an online mortgage originator, will move from space within Cypress Point into a larger 29,000-square-foot location -- which can handle 200 employees -- around August.

Pricelinemortgage is a joint venture of Connecticut-based and William Shatner-promoted Priceline.com and Jacksonville's First Alliance Bank, a sister unit to Alliance Mortgage Co.

Pricelinemortgage now operates in space at Alliance Mortgage offices within Cypress Point but will move into a different building for growth.

"It's an expansion because of the growth of the organization," said David Strickland, president of First Alliance, which is the corporate parent of Pricelinemortgage.

Pricelinemortage President Pat McEnerney said yesterday that "core components" of the operation will move. …
