Southern Living Idea House Comes to Town

Article excerpt

Popular trends in residential construction will be unveiled Saturday at the Southern Living Idea House at the Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club.

The 5,000-square-foot, two-story home designed with a Low Country feel will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The house is closed on Mondays.

While the house is designed to feature the latest trends in residential construction, it has a charitable purpose. A portion of the $5 admission fee will benefit Children's Home Society of Florida, a non-profit organization that provides care and programs for Florida's abused and neglected, and abandoned children.

Each year, Southern Living magazine chooses three cities where Idea Houses will be built. The homes are so dubbed because they are built with the latest design standards and landscaping techniques.

The other cities where Idea Houses have been built are Fort Worth, Texas, and Nashville, Tenn.

In Jacksonville, guests will receive a free copy of the Idea House Magazine and Resource Guide, which will feature color photographs of each room, as well as complete architectural and interior details.

The Idea House will remain open through Oct. 1. For more information, contact the Idea House hotline at 1-888-253-3223.
