The 2000 River City Swimming League Championship concluded Sunday, adding another dramatic chapter to the intense rivalry between the teams of Deerwood-Epping Forest and San Jose Country Club.

Deerwood-Epping Forest captured the championship for the second consecutive year with 985 points. San Jose Country Club, which had won the title 13 out of the previous 16 years, finished second with 809 points. Southside Athletic Club took home third place with 757 points.

These teams, however, were not the only winners in the championship as three veteran competitors in their final year of eligibility each received a $1,000 scholarship. Jill Adcox of the Baymeadows Swim Team, Chris Hobbs of the Fort Caroline Swim Team, and Jennifer Mickler of San Jose Country Club were honored. Adcox and Mickler will attend the University of Florida and Hobbs will attend Florida State University. The scholarships were donated by the Rotary Club of Deerwood, Alltel and Intuition.

More than 2,000 swimmers ages 6-18, from 17 club teams competed for the championship. …
