Stottlemyre to Return after Injury

PHOENIX -- Todd Stottlemyre is ready for his first start for the Arizona Diamondbacks in more than two months, and he knows the pressure is on because he's rejoining a team in the thick of a pennant race.

"There's a certain level of anxiety to be in midseason form because every pitch of every game is so important," Stottlemyre said Friday. "There's no question it's going to be a mental challenge to get to that level where I'm able to give us to chance to win on that day. I feel I'm ready for that, and I look forward to that."

Stottlemyre, 35, will start today in the series finale against the Florida Marlins.

He has been on the disabled list since June 26 with tendinitis in his right elbow. The same ailment kept him on the DL from May 30 to June 14. When the problem reappeared, doctors decided Stottlemyre would need much longer rest. He expects to undergo surgery to correct the problem in the offseason.

In the meantime, he said he has felt no pain during his entire rehabilitation, including two appearances for Arizona's Rookie League team in Tucson. …
