Tyson's Knockout Punch Lifts BK to Title

Over the last four years, the Bishop Kenny volleyball team has enjoyed some of its best times, with a state crown, four district titles and consecutive trips to the state semifinals.

Coincidentally, Elizabeth Tyson has been around for all of that.

So when her team needed a lift in yesterday's district championship game against Fernandina Beach, the talented senior responded.

Last season's Player of the Year finished with 10 kills and propelled the host Crusaders to their fourth consecutive district crown with a 15-7, 2-15, 15-12 victory in the 4-4A title match yesterday. The win means BK will play host to Ridgeview on Tuesday, while the Pirates travel to face Middleburg.

"It got a little scary, but we knew it'd be close either way," Crusaders second-year coach Janice Turner said. "But lately we've been good at coming back."

After a first-game triumph in which the No. 6 Crusaders (19-10) came back from a 3-0 deficit to thump the Pirates, the task at hand didn't seem too daunting. …
