Jacksonville University's volleyball team is holding steady after a bumpy road to the postseason.

The Dolphins are riding a three-game win streak after failing to string together consecutive wins since early October. Their reward is the third seed in this weekend's Trans America Athletic Conference tournament in Boca Raton, with a bonus of playing Troy State University in the opening round.

"This is a good one. We're a little bit more physical team," JU coach Robin Mignerey said. "If we play our game, we'll be fine."

Jacksonville (16-10) beat Troy State (20-10) in both regular-season meetings, including a 3-0 win two weeks ago to start the current win streak. Earlier in the year, the Dolphins won eight consecutive games before an Oct. 7 loss to Samford University.

VALDOSTA GETS DELTA STATE REMATCH -- Valdosta State University's football team defeated previously unbeaten West Georgia 45-35 last Saturday for the first time since 1994.

The team must pull off a similar feat on Saturday when VSU visits Delta State in the first round of the Division II South Region playoffs.

Valdosta State has lost the past five matchups against DSU, and fell to the Statesmen 45-35 last month in a conference battle of unbeatens. VSU still shares the Gulf South Conference championship with Delta State and West Georgia. The once-beaten Blazers have a conference championship and 10 victories for only the second time in team history.

UNF FACES RIVAL AGAIN -- The University of North Florida's volleyball team has seen a lot of Armstrong Atlantic State University this season.

After the teams split in the regular season, UNF beat AASU 3-1 last Saturday for its second consecutive Peach Belt Conference tournament championship.

The conference foes might meet again Friday in the second round of the Division II South Region tournament in Tampa, with the winner playing for the championship the following day. …
