FORMER MARINE TO SPEAK

Tim Lee, a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant and Vietnam war veteran, will speak at the 9 and 10:15 a.m. Sunday worship services at First Baptist Church of Gray Gables, 3158 South Kings Road, in Callahan. The church is celebrating Baptist Men's Day.

Lee lost both legs in a land-mine explosion in 1971 and is a Purple Heart recipient, the church said. He has since become an evangelist and talks about patriotism and biblical issues. For more information, call 879-2986.

PRESBYTERIAN SPEAKER

Charles Dunahoo, the Presbyterian Church in America's Christian education coordinator, will speak at 10 a.m. Sunday church services at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School on Susan Drive in Fernandina Beach. Dunahoo will speak about Christianity and contemporary culture and has led the Christian Education and Publications arm of the Presbyterian Church in America for the last 23 years. ENVIRONMENTAL LECTURE

The Sarabay Society, a non-profit organization that supports the Talbot Island state parks, will host a lecture at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday in The Sarabay Center for Environmental Education.

John M. Jaeger, an assistant professor of geology at The University of Florida in Gainesville, will discuss global warming and its potential impact on the Northeast Florida coastline.

Admission is $5 per person and all proceeds will go directly to Talbot Islands state parks. Advance reservations are encouraged.

Call Talbot Islands state parks at 251-2320 for information and reservations. The Sarabay Center for Environmental Education is located at the end of Houston Road, off Heckscher Drive in Big Talbot Island State Park.

AARP DRIVING COURSE

AARP will hold a 55/Alive driving course from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 30 and 31 at the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 512 Alachua St., Fernandina Beach. The cost is $10, and completion of the course entitles you to a discount under Florida law on auto insurance, instructor Bert Swearingen said. …
