Pilots Strike Would Barely Impact JIA

A strike by pilots at commuter carrier Comair would have little effect on North Florida fliers, airport and airline officials said yesterday.

Comair operates just three flights a day out of Jacksonville International Airport, and those jets carry a maximum 50 passengers apiece.

Two of the commuter airline's flights are non-stop to Boston; the other is to Cincinnati, its home base. Comair couldn't provide the average number of passengers for the Jacksonville flights. Delta provides service to those cities with its own connected flights.

The pilots could strike as early as Monday if management and the Air Line Pilots Association don't reach agreement on a new contract for the airline's 1,400 pilots. Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc., the No. 3 U.S. carrier, last year bought Comair, which feeds passengers to the larger airline.

Comair has more than 800 flights a day to 95 cities in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. …
