Whether you're a child or adult, this weekend is the perfect time to run, skip and play along the St. Johns River as harmonies dance on the currents and melodies twist in the breeze. It's all part of the first BellSouth FamilyMusic Fest Sunday at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.

This musical celebration is a program of The Jewish Community Alliance and is designed to bring music and fun to Jacksonville families. The program will feature six paid concerts inside the Times-Union Center and a number of free activities and performances outside.

"We have some recognized children's performers that have won many awards, like The Chenille Sisters, Rockapella, Linda Tillery and The Cultural Heritage Choir, Lisa Kelly and the J.B. Scott Jazz Quintet with the Jacksonville Children's Chorus and The Battersby Duo," said event chairperson Deborah Broder. "Thomas the Tank Engine is also coming to our outdoor stage."

Concerts held in the Jacoby Hall are aimed at entertaining the entire family, whereas the Little People's Concerts in the Terry Theater are for children ages 6 and under. Jacoby concerts last one hour and Terry concerts last 45 minutes. All the concerts are designed to keep children entertained.

"These are professional performers with a proven track record. Their music is always interesting, clever and funny," said Broder. "They're mesmerizing."

Concerts held in the Jacoby Hall cost $10 per ticket. Concerts in the Terry Theater cost $8 per ticket.

There will also be an awards ceremony in the Moran Theater for the "Do the Right Thing" program, which recognizes young people who have excelled in positive endeavors and good deeds. But for those who want to venture outdoors, there will be plenty of free entertainment outside the Times-Union Center. Numerous tents will be set up, offering fun activities such as face painting and music projects. Jugglers and clowns will also wander the grounds to make sure everyone is having a good time. …
