The annual conference of Habitat for Humanity International executive directors is this weekend at the Adam's Mark hotel in Jacksonville. It runs today through Sunday, when officials tour the site of last year's 101-home Habitat build in Fairway Oaks. Because of a reporter's error, the date was incorrect on Page B-1 on April 20.

Jacksonville is hosting the annual conference of Habitat for Humanity International, the organization that builds homes for the needy and counts former President Jimmy Carter among its volunteers.

Executive directors from across the country will meet downtown at Adam's Mark Hotel today through Sunday, when the group will tour the site of a 101-home build last year in Fairway Oaks.

Local affiliate HabiJax has been among the most successful groups, building 700 homes since its inception in 1988. Once built, the homes go to low-income residents willing to contribute "sweat equity" during construction.


Gov. Jeb Bush will not be in Jacksonville next week to greet his presidential sibling. The governor is already committed to a literacy event in Tampa, his spokeswoman said. In his place, President Bush will be met by Lt. Gov. Frank Brogan. The White House yesterday was still unsure whether the president's Wednesday morning visit will be open to the public. …
