Lookouts Blast Past Suns, 6-4

Eric Junge flirted with danger and perfection through the first three innings of the Suns' contest against Chattanooga last night at Wolfson Park.

The right-hander couldn't flirt through the fourth inning, as the Lookouts (20-19) scored four times on a pair of two-run home runs en route to a 6-4 victory in front of 2,125 fans.

Junge (3-2) retired the first nine hitters in order, but seven of the nine outs recorded were through the air. He finished the game with 12 fly-ball outs, and only two strikeouts and four ground-ball outs in six innings.

"Chattanooga is an aggressive hitting team," Suns manager John Shoemaker said. "They swing the bats really well and when he made a mistake they hit the ball hard."

Mike Metcalfe led off the game with a line drive to right that forced Luke Allen to make a running catch.

In the top of the second, Gabe Alvarez and Ben Broussard sent deep fly balls to center, with Darrell Dent tracking the second one down against the wall. The inning ended with Suns left fielder Bubba Crosby making a running catch on a sinking line drive down the line.

Junge's perfect game was broken up on the first pitch of the second inning -- a sharp single to left by Metcalfe -- and Junge lost his shutout when Tom Nevers followed with the first of three home runs off Junge.

Austin Kearns added a two-out, two-run homer later in the fourth, and Adam Dunn added two solo blasts to right in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively.

With Junge struggling, the Suns offense came alive after getting shut out in two of its previous three contests.

Jorge Nunez and Joe Thurston each went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Jacksonville hitters pounded 14 hits off four Chattanooga pitchers.

The Suns opened the scoring in the second when Crosby tripled to center and scored when the throw to third went in the Lookouts dugout. …
