Vauxhall

Vauxhall's offer of free insurance with its new hot-hatch 1.8-litre Corsa SRi 1.8 is likely to be worth more than [pound]1,000 to a 19-year-old, according to the Luton-based company. Buyers of Vauxhall's 1.4-litre Corsa SRi also benefit from the free insurance package. With a zero-to-62 mph time of eight seconds and a maximum of 126 mph, the 1.8-litre Corsa costs [pound]1,445 more than its predecessor but the old model was powered by a smaller 1.6-litre engine.

Nissan

Nissan has introduced a US-style - but right-hand-drive - 4x4 pickup with five seats and four doors it claims will provide company car drivers with an annual tax saving of up to [pound]2,600 - by virtue of a 1,004 kg carrying capacity that categorises it as a commercial vehicle. The 2.5-litre turbodiesel Nissan Navara's benefit-in-kind value is [pound]200 a year, irrespective of annual mileage, says Nissan. A 40-percent-rate taxpayer running a family saloon with the same [pound]19,950 price tag as the Navara and travelling less than 2,500 business miles a year would have to pay [pound]2,800 in tax.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi has launched a contract hire scheme for its Lancer-based Evo VI supercar with monthly payments claimed to be less than the depreciation of competitors' vehicles. The scheme covers both the Lancer Evolution VI GSR and Lancer Evolution VI "Tommi Makinen" special edition, and customers can now own one for a deposit of [pound]1,587 plus VAT and [pound]499 per month over a standard three-year period of contract hire.
