Performance ratings By Laura Smith Chelmsford to Liverpool Street Tuesday IOANNIS PETRIDIS, 27, has been commuting from Chelmsford since November. He works as a web developer for the Victoria and Albert Museum. He catches a First Great Eastern train to Liverpool Street, then takes the Central and Piccadilly lines to South Kensington. He occasionally returns on the Circle line.

Journey in: my bus arrives late and miss the 6.57am by two minutes.

Catch 7.06am, which, as always, is packed. I have to stand until Stratford. I finally sit down, glad to conserve energy for the dreaded second leg of my journey - the Tube.

Arrive at work at 8.10am.

Journey home: I leave work with a headache which isn't helped by shouting tourists on the Circle line. I get the 5.20pm which arrives at 6pm.

Monday Wednesday Journey in: arrive at the station early - my new boss starts today.

Board the 6.57am, find a seat and settle down for a nap. Arrive on time at 7.31am, but am only able to board the Tube after two packed trains have gone by. Arrive at work at 8.10am, on time but flustered.

Journey home: catch the 5.20pm and sink into a seat completely worn out.

Arrive on time at 5.58pm.

Punctuality Reliability Frequency Comfort Journey in: bus is late again and I Just under 85 per cent of First Great Eastern trains run on time - 16 speed restrictions remain in place delaying journeys by five minutes.

Few trains are cancelled - 99.5 per cent run as advertised, beating FGE's 99 per cent customer charter target.

FGE runs around eight trains during morning and evening peaks with journeys taking between 30 and 35 minutes. Anglia Railways' earliest services from Chelmsford to London are at 8.59am and 10.20am.

The majority of trains are 10 years old. FGE operates a small number of Cost Staff just manage to board the 7.06am.

After a battle with a man brandishing his suitcase like a weapon I find a seat. After about 20 minutes the tranquillity is shattered by a mobile phone. …
