Earl's Sister Killed Herself with Overdose

THE sister of the Earl of Bradford committed suicide by taking an overdose of paracetamol, an inquest heard today.

Lady Serena Bridgeman, 51, whose brother Richard owns Porters English restaurant in Covent Garden, died after a period of depression during which she was treated at the Roehampton Priory clinic.

She had twice tried to take her life but her family thought she had been put off the idea after her cousin, the Hon William Bridgeman, shot himself last November.

However, she was found by two friends on 16 January lying on her bed at her home in Westgate Terrace, West Brompton, Westminster coroner's court heard.

Her flat was littered with empty bottles of painkillers. She had written a four-page suicide letter. None of her family attended the short inquest today but a statement from her sister, Lady Caroline Garnell, was read out. She said that her sister lived alone and was divorced 10 years ago. …
