ANOTHER SLUGGISH PRACTICE

Coach Tom Coughlin already wasn't in the best mood after a shaky display Friday in practices with the New Orleans Saints. Heavy rains and another sluggish effort in yesterday's workout only added to his ire.

Coughlin expressed his disappointment after a 1 1/2-hour session at Ferrell Fields, saying the one-hour rain delay and subsequent switch from the field at Alltel Stadium were no excuse.

"[Practice] wasn't as fast as I wanted it to be," Coughlin said. "The conditions were a factor, but we've still got to practice faster and have better tempo.

Mounting injuries didn't help Coughlin's mood. The Jaguars revealed that backup offensive lineman Mark Baniewicz will miss 8-to-12 weeks with a torn triceps muscle in his left arm, and backup quarterback Jamie Martin is out indefinitely with a sprained ankle and toe.

Wide receiver Keenan McCardell also is sidelined by a groin injury.

That's not the kind of shape Coughlin wants his team to be in with the exhibition opener against the Carolina Panthers at Alltel Stadium just four days away.

Dawkins, in fact, was reduced to running routes against undrafted free agents for fourth-team quarterback Ted White during yesterday's practice.

That's a far cry from last season, when Dawkins caught 63 passes for 731 yards -- both career highs -- with Seattle. …
