LEE CO. 25, WARE CO. 15 -- Chris Hetland kicked a 49-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 15 then booted a 25-yarder and quarterback Jessie Jones scored on a 11-yard run in overtime to give the Trojans the Region 1-AAAAA victory in Leesburg Friday night.

The Gators, the region runner-up last year, are now 2-4, and at 0-3 in the region, are in danger of missing the state playoffs for the first time in three years. Lee won only its second league game since joining the league last year and is now 1-5 and 1-3.

Things don't get any easier for Ware this week. The Gators host Valdosta -- the No. 4 team in the AP state poll and 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the region after Friday night's 35-12 win over Colquitt County -- at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Lee has an open date.

-- COFFEE 28, TIFT CO. 27 -- Chase Goggans kicked a 40-yard field goal with 11 seconds left in the second half of overtime that allowed the Trojans to take the penetration victory in a wild Region 1-AAAAA game in Tifton.

Coffee, which is now 5-0-1 overall and 4-0 in the region, is idle this week. Tift (4-2, 1-2) is at Colquitt County, a 35-12 loser to Valdosta Friday night, in a game that will likely have playoff implications.

-- BRUNSWICK 55, WINDSOR FOREST 14 -- Senior tailback Reggie Habersham led the charge with 214 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries as the Pirates ground out 365 yards rushing and 475 yards total offense in winning their Region 3-AAAAA (B) opener in Brunswick.

Brunswick, which had stormed to a 35-0 lead in the second quarter, is now 3-2 overall and faces a tough sub-region test this week when it hosts Wayne County, also 1-0 in the league after blasting Savannah Johnson 41-6 Friday night. Windsor Forest is now 2-4 and 0-2.

-- LOWNDES 32, BAINBRIDGE 12 -- The Vikings scored 24 unanswered points after three fumbles and a bad punt snap to take the Region 1-AAAAA win over the Bearcats in Valdosta.

Lowndes, now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the region, has an open date this week, while Bainbridge (2-3, 0-3) hosts Lee County, which upset Ware County 25-15 Friday night to win its first region game of the year. …
