The Florida Sports Awards will add two categories for its 2002 show, including a Lifetime Achievement Award named in honor of the France family, founders of NASCAR.

The France Family Award for Lifetime Achievement will honor an athlete, coach, owner or individual whose contributions over their lifetime enhanced the quality of Florida sports.

"This award will be given to someone who through their talent, commitment and actions, made a significant impact on our state in its growth in the world of sports," said Andy Jacobs, president and executive producer of the Florida Sports Awards. "There is no other family in the history of Florida sports that is as [synonymous] with sports as the France family. All winners of this award will be measured by their dedication."

The second of the new awards, called Jaspers, is the Professional Soccer Player of the Year Award. Players from the state's two Major League Soccer teams, the Tampa Bay Mutiny and the Miami Fusion, will compete for this award, while the teams will also be eligible for the team, coach and hometown hero of the year awards. …
