Police Charge Kingsland Man in Connection with Fatal Accident

A Kingsland, Ga., man was charged Monday with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality after a woman was knocked into a ditch by a truck on U.S. 17 in Nassau County.

Michael Justin Bain, 21, was arrested after he told Kingsland, Ga., police about the accident, which had occurred the night before.

Ann Purcell, 39, formerly of Kingsland was hit in Yulee about 10 p.m. Sunday, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Bill Leeper. Officers found her body the next day after Bain told them about the accident, he said.

Troopers do not know why Purcell, the daughter of Camden County Commissioner Bob Becker and his ex-wife, Mary Becker, was walking along U.S. 17, Leeper said. Leeper also said he didn't know why Bain waited all night before contacting authorities.

Investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol, the Kingsland Police Department and the Nassau County Sheriff's Office went with Bain Monday to look for Purcell. …
