Readers Offer Ideas for Making T-U a Better Paper

Article excerpt

Byline: Mike Clark, Times-Union Reader Advocate

What would make a good New Year's resolution for the Times-Union?

Maryann Turley, San Souci: More Metro news representing a population over 1 million people. Make that Crossword puzzle in the Weekend section a little larger.

Tom Goodsite: More space for the Insight section for think pieces. More space for the book page.

Brian Buzzaird, Mandarin: More business coverage, so that subscribing to the Wall Street Journal wouldn't be necessary. More national sports news. More comic strips and no advertisements in Sunday comics.

Jim Trucks, Westside: Some type of "empathy" section where family members, friends of alcohol and drug abusers could share their thoughts anonymously. Also, a counterpoint to Doonesbury.

Beth Perry, San Jose: Add Molly Ivins or Jim Hightower, two liberal opinion columnists with a sense of humor.

Bill Deatrick, East Arlington: Change the role of editorials to simply giving facts on both sides of an issue and letting readers make up their own minds.

Bill Berglund, Yulee: Continue Page 1 stories on Page 2, so it reads like a book.
