'Cigarette Craving' Had Street's Tracy Fuming on Flight

CORONATION STREET star Tracy Shaw today insisted that giving up smoking was the reason she and her husband had a fight on a packed holiday jet.

After an assignment on the Cayman Islands filming ITV's Wish You Were Here, she snapped on the flight home and, according to fellow passengers, repeatedly punched husband Robert Ashworth when he told her he wanted to sleep.

One witness claimed the pair had been drinking complimentary champagne but the actress said that drink played no part in the row. It was caused, said Miss Shaw, by the couple's decision to give up smoking on New Year's Eve.

She said: "There's no doubt we were both tetchy and tired. I was desperate for a cigarette but didn't want to let it show.

"I could feel the tension building inside and when he said the wrong thing I let him have both barrels. It's the first time we've ever had a fallout in public."

An onlooker said: "She hit him with her fist in his face - five, six, seven times in a row. …
