The wake-up call for Stanton's girls basketball team last night coincided with Sandalwood drifting off into a haze.

The result was a misleading 63-51 win for Stanton.

For nearly three quarters, the largest lead by either team was four points. While the game was only tied once (35-all with 4 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter) there were 13 lead changes as the teams traded baskets.

In the final 2 1/2 minutes of the third quarter however, Sandalwood's Dee Dee Davis hit three consecutive 3-pointers. Stanton (22-3) countered with a 3-pointer by Jennifer Petty at the buzzer (one of eight treys by the Blue Devils), but the Saints held a 46-41 lead.

"The first three quarters we were just going through the motions," Stanton coach Carlisa Thomas said. "Then there was that fourth quarter and we woke up. . . . finally!"

Stanton started connecting on jump shots, layups and 3-pointers. …
