Brunswick Gathering Prays for Unborn Roe vs. Wade Marks Its 29th Anniversary

BRUNSWICK -- About 100 people gathered at City Hall on the 29th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade yesterday to pray for unborn children.

The Rev. John Connell, pastor of First Baptist Church, led the noon prayer service called Together for Life 2002. Brittany Davis, Connell's daughter, spoke of her own experience as a pregnant teenager and the subsequent day-care accident that left her son, Cooper, with brain damage.

Connell prayed for the millions of unborn who are never given a chance to live because of the Supreme Court decision legalizing most abortions.

In speaking of her son's birth, Brittany Davis said her decision to give birth to Cooper defined her life.

People miss a lot when they decide to abort children to avoid the inconvenience of a unwanted child, she said.

"Who better to teach us about life than a child? Who better to teach us to love than a child?'' she asked.

In August, Cooper was badly injured in an accident, in which he was possibly strangled in a high chair. Some doctors said he would not live, but he did survive and has made some progress in a slow recovery.

Her voice breaking with emotion, she said that Cooper, although not the boy he once was, is a blessing who has enriched her life by teaching her what it is like to be a parent.

"I was loved by a child,'' she said.

Although still blind, Cooper has recovered some of his hearing and appears to be responding, said his father, Tyson Davis.

After her speech, Brittany Davis stood in front of Cooper's stroller and held his hand as others spoke and prayed.

Brandi Sneedley spoke of her decision to give birth although she was undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer while she was pregnant. Sneedley said some physicians urged her to have an abortion.

She gave birth to a healthy girl a year ago today, Sneedley said. …
