Fruit Cove Baptist Church had its second annual Car and Bike Show on Jan. 12, with 170 entries.

The individual award for best street rod to 1949 was presented to George Mann, owner of a 1937 Ford Humpback sedan. The car -- with an 8-cylinder, V-8, 350-horse-power small block Chevrolet engine -- also drove away with the top 20 picks overall award for the show.

Restoration work on the car was done by Fruit Cove resident Gary Brown and Robert Bergeron at Gary Brown's Paint & Body Works, 6299 Powers Ave.

MOMS' OPEN HOUSE

The Moms Offering Moms Support Club of Fruit Cove will have an open house at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bartram Trail branch library. A representative from Child Watch will be available to ID and fingerprint children at no charge. Tips will be offered on how to keep children safe.

The MOMS Club is a national support group for mothers who stay at home with their children, including moms who have a home-based business or who work part-time. The group offers a range of activities, including special programs for mothers, play groups for children and get-togethers for the entire family.

MOMS Club members perform service projects benefiting needy children in the community. Children are welcome at all MOMS Club activities. For more information on the local chapter of the club, call 230-8242.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

The Environmental Education Resource Council of Northeast Florida will play host for 10 programs this year.

The first of the series, at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Bartram Trial branch library, 60 Davis Pond Blvd., will focus on ecology of the St. Johns River.

Other programs will focus on some part of the area's environment so county residents can become familiar with plants, animals, endangered species, creeks and rivers, trees and habitat types and how actions affect these things.

All programs will be funded through a grant from a portion of the money received from the Communication Tower at Mills Field. For more information, contact Beverly J. Fleming, chairwoman, at 824-4423. …
