Second-Ranked Stanton Girls Top Wolfson, 47-42

One week before district playoffs are set to begin, this wasn't the type of game that the Wolfson and Stanton coaches were looking for.

Visiting Stanton, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, finally prevailed 47-42 in this showdown against Wolfson, ranked No. 5 in 5A -- but both coaches had some stern words for their teams.

"I told my girls that they have got to stop digging these holes for themselves and then exerting all of our energy trying to dig our way out," Stanton coach Carlisa Thomas said.

Thomas was thrilled with the way her team jumped to a 15-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game, but the rest of the half, the Lady Blue Devils managed just seven points while allowing Wolfson to score 22 and take a 24-22 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, momentum took another turn as the Wolfpack managed a single basket. Meanwhile Stanton, playing its final regular-season game, could do little wrong, scoring 15 points. …
