Start-Up Urgent Care Center to Open

Solantic, a new Jacksonville start-up urgent care clinic company, opens its first center today.

The company plans to open four centers between today and March. The Mandarin center opening today is at 12303 San Jose Blvd.

Solantic centers offer basic services, such as treatment of minor injuries and illness and administration of immunizations and physicals.

The center is open seven days a week and accepts most insurance except Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare.

Karen Bowling, a former Jacksonville TV anchor, launched Solantic and is its president.


St. Catherine Laboure Manor opened its Alzheimer's recreation center last week. The nursing home opened the center to address the more than 80 percent of the home's long-term residents who have some form of dementia, such as Alzheimer's.

The center will be used for everything from art projects, to cooking simple meals, to family visits and other familiar tasks that may spark memories for residents with cognitive impairment. …
