University Christian captured its second consecutive Region 1-A championship last night at Lee, racking up four individual winners and dominating the team standings by more than 100 points.

The Christians led the field with 234 points, followed by Bartram Trail with 130, Fernandina Beach (113.5), Crawfordville Wakulla (112.5) and Pensacola Christian with 98.

Eighth-grader Pete Peterson (32-11) got the Christians going with an upset 4-2 overtime decision over Jamieson Jekel (28-2) of Pensacola Christian in the 105-pound weight class. At 127 pounds, Chris Cantillo (38-1) got University its second first-place finish of the night, earning a 13-4 major decision over Bartram Trail's Hector Zayas (25-4).

At 147-pounds, Jonathan Baldree (38-4) scored the first University pin, sticking St. Joseph's Van Cooler (29-2) in 3:25.

But it was the Christians' Dean Surrency (38-1) who scored the most impressive victory of the night, recording the finals' only first-round pin, over Bartram Trail's Jon Klinger (29-8) in 1:17 in the 162-pound weight class. …
