Police Briefing Nervous Clerk Foils Robbery Attempt

A flustered clerk and an impatient armed robber equalled nothing stolen Feb. 27, when police said a man trying to rob the Citgo gas station at 3260 Beach Blvd. gave up and fled.

Police said a man wearing a black ski cap and yellow bandana walked into the store at 7:37 p.m. and walked up to the 26-year-old clerk with a gun in hand. The man pointed the weapon at the clerk and demanded money, but the clerk "could not get it open because he was nervous," according to the police report.

The gunman continued to tell the clerk to "give it up," but the police report indicates he couldn't get the register open despite repeated attempts. After cursing at the clerk, the gunman ran out of the store. A search of the area didn't turn up the gunman.
