POLICE today issued an e-fit of a mystery jogger seen following backpacker Caroline Stuttle just before she was thrown to her death from a bridge in Australia.

The release of the e-fit coincides with the issue of pictures from 19-year-old Caroline's gapyear adventure, showing her smiling happily as she enjoyed the sights with her best friend Sarah Holiday.

In some of the pictures she is carrying the bag which was stolen in the attack which led to her death.

Today it emerged that Caroline was being stalked by a jogger moments before she died. She was found at the foot of the 65ft high road bridge in the quiet Queensland town of Bundaberg - still clutching the bag's strap.

Detectives believe her attacker hurled her to her death as she struggled to hold on to her bag.

The jogger was dressed in sweatshirt, shorts and trainers.

Police said it was "imperative" that the man - described as white, solidly built and aged 25-30 - was tracked down.

A woman had been walking in the opposite direction on the other side of the bridge on Wednesday when she saw Miss Stuttle. She rang police when she heard a scream but was too far away to see the attack.

The man leading the murder hunt, Detective Inspector Jeff Oliphant, said: "The woman, who was at the extreme end of the bridge by the time of the fatal attack on Caroline, recalled seeing a man jogging up to Caroline - just five feet behind her."

Police said there was no evidence Caroline had been sexually assaulted, shot or stabbed.

She had been returning to Riverdale caravan park, 10 minutes away, after phoning her boyfriend in Britain. …
