Claire Dailey Walters, who taught English and history in Duval County public schools for nearly 30 years, died at her Fairfax Manor home Saturday after an apparent heart attack. She was 82.

Mrs. Walters retired as an English teacher at Lake Shore Junior High School in 1970. She previously had taught at Hyde Park Elementary, Kirby-Smith and John Gorrie Junior high schools.

"She taught so many youngsters," said a friend, Alice Harmon. "Anywhere we went together, Claire was always introducing me to a former student of hers. They always said that Mrs. Walters had been so supportive of them. I think of Claire as such a lovely lady, so strong and warm and caring."

The funeral will be this week at Boeuf Prairie United Methodist Church in Fort Necessity, La., with burial in the Dailey family cemetery close to the little farmhouse where Mrs. Walters was born in Extension, La.

She graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, where she was a member of Theta Upsilon sorority and the Panhellenic Council. …
