FREE CLASSES: The Clay County Sheriff's Office will have two rape-prevention classes in conjunction with Victim's Rights Week next week.

The free classes will be eight hours, spread over two nights, and taught by sheriff's office employees trained to instruct the public on defensive tactics and personal safety tips, among other things. The instructors have numerous years of law enforcement experience.

The first session will be Monday and Tuesday at the agency's Orange Park operations center off Blanding Boulevard. The second session will be April 24 and 25 in the third-floor training room of the sheriff's office headquarters on U.S. 17 in Green Cove Springs. Both run from 6 to 10 p.m.

PICNIC: A teddy bear picnic will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Spring Park bandstand in Green Cove Springs to culminate the children's story hour program at the Green Cove Springs branch library. Participants are asked to bring a blanket and a bear. Lunch will be provided. 284-6315.


HIGH SCHOOL PAGEANTS: The County Line will run the names and pictures of the 38 high school students who will compete for their miss high school crowns on Saturday at Orange Park and Clay high schools. …
