-- Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones *** As Yoda might say: "This movie, like my fans will." Those who aren't already converts, however, likely won't be swayed much by this one. Still, it's far better than the woeful Phantom Menace; it's action-packed (between the expected stilted speechifying) and beautiful to look at (every image is packed with eye candy). Speaking of Yoda, he's now digitally animated, not a puppet, and it seems to suit him. You'll see. PG.

-- About a Boy *** Another wry, knowing book written by novelist Nick Hornby (High Fidelity) is turned into a wry, knowing movie. It stars Hugh Grant as a womanizing cad made human by his friendship with a 12-year-old boy played by Nicholas Hoult, who would have made a wonderful Harry Potter. PG-13.

-- Spider-Man *** It's a sweet, even earnest blockbuster that's at its best as it shows nerdy teenager Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) discovering his new self. …
