PTA Program Participants Recognized

Article excerpt

The Cultural Arts Committee of the Duval County Council of PTAs/PTSAs recently honored participants, along with their families, in a reception for the National PTA Reflections Program at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens.

Christopher Jones of Lake Forest Elementary School received an Award of Merit from the National PTA Reflections Program. His entry was in the Intermediate Category of the Visual Arts division of the program.

Also, a Visual Arts entry from Garrett Peaks of the LaVilla School of the Arts was forwarded to the National PTA Reflections Program. He received a Superior Award at the state level of the program.

Three-hundred-forty-nine students participated at the county level from 31 schools. Of those, 42 entries were chosen to participate at the state level, and 10 of those entries received honors. Included in this number were two superior entries and eight entries that received distinguished honors.

The Reflections Program is an initiative of the National PTA and gives students an opportunity to explore and learn about various art forms centered on a theme, said Phyllis Bell-Davis, Duval County Council of PTAs/PTSAs Cultural Arts chairwoman. This year's theme was: "I hold in my hand . . ."

Young artists participate in four categories based on grade divisions in literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts. Grade divisions include K to 2, 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 12.

The following are students from the Duval County Council of PTAs/PTSAs whose entries were forwarded to the state level:
