Forced into their first doubleheader of the season following last night's rainout, the Jacksonville Suns will send two of their top pitchers this season against the Tennessee Smokies in a pair of seven-inning contests today at Wolfson Park.

Ricardo Rodriguez takes a 2-2 mark with a 2.00 ERA into the opener, making his seventh start for the Suns since coming off the disabled list (right shoulder tendinitis) May 18. Randy Leek has been equally impressive, winning two of his three decisions and posting a 1.96 ERA in four outings since joining the Suns from South Georgia on Memorial Day.

On Thursday, Jacksonville scored twice in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to beat the Smokies 7-6 in the second-half opener of the Southern League season. It was the type of effort the Suns had used to record 17 come-from-behind wins in the first half.

"To start the second half like this, it's a big lift for our ballclub," manager Dino Ebel said Thursday night. …
