Pro-Hunting Campaigners Blockade Motorways at Rush Hour

PRO-COUNTRYSIDE demonstrators blocked motorways around the country today in protest at Government plans to ban foxhunting.

The Countryside Action Network and its supporters struck in South Wales, Somerset, South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire.

The demonstrations, which saw protesters drive slowly in convoy along heavily-used routes, were coordinated to disrupt the morning rush hour. John Baddeley, a Norfolk farmer who helped organise the Cambridgeshire demonstration, said: "We want to send a message to the Government that if they pursue us, that is what we can do.

"If they continue, we will do it all day, all week, or however long it takes. We are talking about freedom here." A spokeswoman for the group said: "We are all Countryside Alliance members ... but the Alliance is too polite.

"New Labour only listens to the people who can cause it most grief and at the moment on this issue that is their backbenchers. …
