At least three people have been killed as the result of lightning in Duval County since 1995. Because of incorrect information from the National Climatic Data Center, the number of lightning deaths in the county since 1995 was incorrect in a story on Page B-3 yesterday.

A homeless man killed by lightning Monday when storms swept through Jacksonville has been identified as 51-year-old Leon Wimberly. He was in a wooded lot behind Abboud's Grocery and Market at 211 Park St. about 6 p.m. when he was hit.

Linda Lanier, president of the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, said making people come out of the weather can be difficult.

"As long as a person is willing to be sheltered, there is usually a place for them," she said.
