Bush Appoints 2 to FAMU Board Governor Selects Orange Park Man

Orange Park businessman Leerie Jenkins Jr. has been appointed to the board of trustees at Florida A&M University, Gov. Jeb Bush announced yesterday.

"I'm very honored the governor has chosen me to serve and I'll try to bring any skills that I have to better the university," Jenkins said.

Bush also appointed as trustee Challis Lowe of Pinecrest, an executive vice president for Ryder System. They will replace former trustees Cathy Hughes and Joseph Lacher, who both resigned.

Jenkins, 53, is chairman and and chief executive officer of Reynolds, Smith and Hills, an architecture, engineering and planning firm. He previously served as chairman of the Jacksonville Economic Development Council from 1999 to 2001, chairman of the Florida Chamber of Commerce in 2000, and chairman of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce in 1998.

He currently serves on the educational task force of the Florida Council of 100 and is first vice chairman for the Alliance for World Class Education. …
