Police Seeking Man in Kidnap Attempt

Law enforcement agencies in Northeast Florida have been put on alert following the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl in Orange Park early Sunday evening.

The girl told authorities she was walking toward a friend's house on Grove Park Drive when a man pulled up behind her in a small, black car and told her to get in the vehicle, Orange Park police Lt. Mark Cornett said Thursday.

The girl refused and ran to a nearby house seeking help. The residents took her in and she telephoned her parents, who went and picked her up.

Cornett said the girl was frightened and didn't recall specifically what the man said to her, except that his tone of voice was demanding.

Investigator Seth Schiefer said the child also told police that the man spoke with a "heavy Spanish accent."

Several times this summer, peeping-Tom incidents have been reported in Orange Park and nearby neighborhoods in unincorporated Clay County. …
