At 68,000 square feet, with 20 classrooms, a gymnasium, multi-purpose room and art and science labs, it is the largest Catholic elementary school in Northeast Florida.

Now Bishop Victor Galeone, head of the Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine, has officially blessed the new Holy Family Catholic School, which opened in late August with 177 students in pre-K through fifth grade behind its church at 9800 Baymeadows Road.

Hundreds of parents and children joined Galeone, church pastor and Rev. Greg Fay and Principal Michael Corrigan Sunday at the official blessing, with the bishop blessing "this center of seeking, learning and teaching God's truth" during a brief ceremony before splashing holy water on many of the classrooms.

"This is the first time I have set foot in the school since it was completed, and I was pleasantly surprised at the size of it and the way it has been staffed with the most up-to-date equipment," Galeone said later. …
