IT Girls such as Lady Victoria Hervey and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson pride themselves on their ability never to be upstaged at a glittering showbusiness party. They can usually be assured of regular column inches focusing on their antics and outlandish partywear. But their place on the London party scene is about to be challenged by two girls who are widely regarded as the crEme de la crEme of the international social circuit.

Paris Hilton, heir to billions in the Hilton hotel chain, and Ivanka Trump, millionaire daughter of flamboyant property magnate Donald Trump and former wife, Ivana, are buying a substantial stake in one of the capital's most exclusive clubs.

The pair - both fantastically rich and darlings of American society gossip columns - are investing in The Collection in South Kensington with individual holdings worth more than pound sterling1 million.

The deal will mean that the pair and their respective entourages of New York socialites are set to become regular features of the London scene. They will be hoping their association with the venue will help it make further gains on rival clubs like The Met Bar, The Light Bar, The Funky Budda, Browns and The Wellington Club. Confirming details of the deal, the club's owner Jay Bolina said: "I can't divulge the exact amount in figures but their shares will have a likely value of pound sterling1 million at least, for each of them."

Paris Hilton for one will be hoping that her debut as London club boss is better received than her 21st birthday party held in May at the Stork Rooms in Soho - one of six birthday parties she threw round the world. On that night, she managed to fall down a flight of stairs as she entered the soirEe.

On the door at The Collection, "face scouts" pride themselves on turning away anyone who doesn't make the grade, while part-time models serve behind the bar and wait at the restaurant. …
