CLERKENWELL chic has arrived in Vauxhall - where Jeffrey Archer has a penthouse riverside flat - in the form of Skysuite, a 6,500sq ft office tower at the top of 89 Albert Embankment.

It is owned by developer Chelsfield and the refurbishment has been designed by acclaimed minimalist architect John Pawson.

"It's breathtaking, both the view and the interior," says David Rosen of letting agent Pilcher Hershman. "There's a lot of pastiche minimalism around; this is the real McCoy."

Chelsfield specialises in loft offices for creative companies.

Five years ago it introduced Pawson to York Central, a former poppy factory in King's Cross, from where he still operates.

Rosen believes Skysuite will appeal to "a highly visually aware international business, such as a firm of cool American lawyers, or perhaps an indulgent industrialist who wants a statement office".

The interior is a deceptively simple affair that includes oak flooring, designer lighting and bespoke furniture made by designer Bill Amberg and Pawson.

Another draw is a private groundfloor

groundfloor entrance with an express lift to the office space. Other tenants in the 18-storey tower include Comic Relief and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Pilcher Hershman is asking for a rent of pound sterling42.50 a square foot.

Business Enterprise Group, which operates a serviced office centre in Vauxhall, claims to be doing record business Restructuring of government departments has intensified the search for space in the area.

"Occupiers no longer believe it's crucial to have an SW1 postcode," says managing director David Saul.

The Government already has a big presence in the shape of the MI5 building looming over the Thames. St George Wharf, the

adjacent, giant mixed-use complex, is another landmark. …
