-- CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR -- Ponte Vedra Beach's David Eger shot a 67 yesterday to grab a tie for the lead in the Champion's Tour National Qualifying Tournament at World Woods Golf Club in Brooksville. Eger, the 1988 Mid-Amateur winner, hit 13 greens and used only 25 putts in posting a 5-under par. After today's play, the field will be cut to the low-70 scores plus ties. The low-16 finishers over the age of 50 and anyone 49 years old who places among the top 16 will earn a Player's Card for the 2003 season. The top eight professionals receive full exemptions into all open co-sponsored events on next year's Champion's Tour, formerly known as the Seniors Tour.

-- PHOENIX CHALLENGE -- Tiger Woods beat South Korea's K.J. Choi in a playoff to win a six-hole exhibition match in Miyazaki, Japan, played before the Dunlop Phoenix tournament. Woods bogeyed the par-4 15th hole to set up a playoff with Choi, and then won the $40,000 prize when his chip shot from the side of the green at the same hole landed 4 feet from the cup. …
