For the third time this season, the White football team will play against a quarterback that poses a real concern for Commanders defense.

The first two times, the 9-2 Westside team lost its only games of the season. So when White takes the field tonight for a Region 1-6A semifinal against Winter Park, 7:30 p.m. at Commanders Stadium, the first thing on coach Dan Disch's mind will be stopping star quarterback Steven Moffett.

"The two best we've seen by far are [Chris] Walker from Ribault and the [Andre] Caldwell kid from Tampa Jefferson," said Disch. "And this guy [Moffett] is like a combination of both of them."

Moffett threw for more than 2,000 yards as a junior, has a stack of scholarship offers, and skewered defending 6A champion Apopka in a 50-29 first-round win last week. Out of a spread formation that the Wildcats had not used much in the regular season, Moffett completed 14-of-18 for 191 yards, rushed for 72 and accounted for five touchdowns. …
