WEST HAM are a club in despair today following the news that striker Paolo Di Canio, could be out for three months with a knee injury.

As the news of the blow confirmed Standard Sport's story of yesterday, former manager Harry Redknapp defended under-fire chairman Terry Brown and blamed the players for the club's plight at the bottom of the Premiership. He also appeared to criticise manager Glenn Roeder.

Redknapp, sacked by Brown in May 2001, said: "Don't blame the chairman, it's the players' fault. They must stand up and be counted. Terry Brown isn't my favourite man for obvious reasons but the criticism he is getting is not fair.

"When Glenn Roeder took over from me as manager he was given pound sterling15 million to spend and a lot of Premiership bosses would love to have a pot like that to buy players.

"Glenn has brought on Tomas Repka, David James, Don Hutchison and Vladimir Labant to join the talent that was already there. …
