THE MTV music channel is looking to bring its flagship Europe Music Awards to London next year.

The event is the biggest in the European showbusiness calendar - attracting stars from both Europe and America and plenty of publicity for the channel.

The 2002 Europe Music Awards, hosted by P Diddy, took place in Barcelona earlier this month, attracting Robbie Williams, Ms Dynamite, Eminem, Wyclef Jean, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Pierce Brosnan and Pink.

The Europe Music Awards were last hosted in London in 1996. EMA executive producer Richard Godfrey said that as next year's event would be the 10th show, he was looking for somewhere special as a venue. Insiders have tipped the Millennium Dome.

MTV also plans to launch a British version of its US format Total Request Live and is looking for a London venue.

Broadcast magazine reports today that the former nightclub home, in Leicester Square, is a possible venue.

AUSTRALIAN police searching for missing British teenager Louise Saunders have found a message thought to have been carved by her on a tree in the dense rainforest where she disappeared.

The writing could provide search teams with a vital clue to the 19-year-old's last movements on the mountain in northern Queensland where she became lost three days ago. The message contains Louise's name and that of another person.

Queensland police would not reveal its contents until they have carried out further analysis.

Inspector Paul Taylor said today: "We believe Louise left the writing on a tree on the track. The carvings are deep and very legible and we don't believe they are the writing of a person in any sort of desperation."

After three days lost on Mount Tully the authorities fear she is lying injured after becoming disorientated during a trekking expedition. …
