CSX to Sell Land to Group in New Jersey

CSX Transportation Inc. is on track to sell 55 acres in North Jacksonville to a New Jersey company for industrial development.

CSX spokeswoman Susie Wiles said this week that the railroad company intended to complete the sale in January to Chester Industrial Park Association of New Jersey.

An application filed in late November with the city shows that CSX owns the property along Alta Drive, described as a site between Alta Road and New Berlin Road.

The application sought an informal concurrency review from the Jacksonville Planning and Development Department.

The review, filed Dec. 9, indicates there is insufficient traffic capacity on one link, which means the developer can adjust the plans or negotiate a development agreement with the city to help pay for traffic improvements.

According to the application, the Chester Industrial Park would comprise a 264,000-square-foot cold-storage warehouse for importing and exporting goods. A rail spur would be connected to the site, plans show.

The park would generate 30 jobs, according to the application. The project cost was estimated at $5 million. Agee, Vorpe & Associates of Jacksonville is the project agent.

Wiles said she had no further information about Chester Industrial Park Association, which would buy the land.

"We are just selling it," she said.

At one point, the land was of interest to Oracal USA, the Jacksonville-based supplier of films for the graphics art industries. However, Oracal decided to move into leased space in Southside instead.
