County Offices Settle into Home on Flora Branch

Fruit Cove and Switzerland residents have a new home for their St. Johns County Building Department, Clerk of Courts, Property Appraiser, Sheriff's Office, Supervisor of Elections, state driver's license bureau and Tax Collector's offices.

County staff will play host for a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. today for the new 10,055-square-foot, $1.2 million government annex at 725 Flora Branch Blvd. Public tours will follow. The offices officially open for business Monday.

The annex replaces two county satellite offices nearby. While today marks the official opening, county spokeswoman Jenny O'Dell said many of the offices have been open unofficially since Jan. 2.

"The facility isn't officially done, because they are still putting in computer lines, but they are mostly in there," O'Dell said. "The Sheriff's Office was the first one to occupy it. Don't expect to see the Building Department yet. Their furnishings and computer haven't been installed, but everyone else is up and running. …
