BLITZ TOURNEY IN 2ND YEAR

The second annual NE Florida Offshore Blitz Fishing Tournament, an event that allows anglers to submit their catches and photographs online, will begin March 1 and continue through June 29.

Last year's Blitz drew 69 anglers, and organizers are hoping for more than 150 this year. Eligible species are wahoo, tuna, dolphin, grouper, snapper and kingfish. Anglers submit their heaviest catch of each species and provide a photo.

Cost is $50, which includes T-shirt, sticker and the awards party. Trophies are awarded for the heaviest catches. The designated fishing area is from Fernandina Beach to Matanzas Inlet.

To register or for more information, visit the tournament Web site at www.offshoreblitz.com.

WOMEN'S WORKSHOPS SET

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will play host to two Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshops in West Palm Beach and Ocala.

The workshops teach outdoors skills to women -- everything from canoeing/kayaking to shooting sports -- and most of the instructors are female.

The West Palm Beach workshop will be Feb. 28-March 2 at the Everglades Youth Conservation Camp; the Ocala Workshop is April 25-27 in the Ocala National Forest. Cost is $150, which includes food and lodging for the weekend. Each workshop is limited to 100 participants, and slots typically fill up fast.

A limited number of partial scholarships are available for those from low-income families. To request a brochure and register, call (561) 625-5126.
