Bates: Bosnich exit a tragedy FOOTBALL: Chelsea chairman Ken Bates today admitted that Mark Bosnich's sacking is a "tragedy" for both the player and the club, writes Raoul Simons.

A Premier League tribunal decided on Tuesday not to uphold the Australian keeper's claim for unfair dismissal after he tested positive for cocaine.

Bates said: "This case is a tragedy from everyone's point of view."

Bosnich claimed his drink had been spiked during a night out. But the tribunal backed the club's view that the keeper had breached the terms of his contract.

Bosnich has seven days to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, Bates has accused Charlton of wasting Chelsea's time with their complaint about the state of the Stamford Bridge pitch.

He said: "Charlton have talked a load of rubbish about this."
