The Buick Invitational win by Tiger Woods last week improved his record against Phil Mickelson to 65-28-3 in tournament play. Once again, Lefty had no Sunday punch.

Something has got to be done to make things a little more interesting. My suggestion is that whenever these two are paired together in the future, Nike should supply Woods with throwback clubs. Just start with a 1980s brand, then move back one decade each time until Tiger's equipment is inferior enough to give Mickelson a legitimate chance to win. . . .

The University of North Florida basketball arena has gotten favorable reviews as a preseason practice facility for the Orlando Magic. That has put UNF on a short list for consideration as the 2004 training camp of the Olympic team. Representatives from USA Basketball will be here next month to get a closer look. If Team USA (which still has to go through Olympic qualifying) trains in Jacksonville, the upside is that Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady and company would play an exhibition in the new Coliseum against an unnamed opponent before departing for Athens, Greece. . . . The most amazing thing about boxing's latest freak show isn't seeing fighters pull out and come back in, but that Don King has no involvement. . . .
